Holiday Season Gift Ideas: Fashionable Snow Wear E-mail
Sunday, 09 December 2012

Fashionable_snow_wearIf you remember the snow wear you wore when you were a child, you might think that fashionable snow wear is impossible. Snow wear, meant to keep you warm and protected from the snow, is bulky and unattractive - right?

Actually, with the styles and technology available today, winter outwear can be quite fashionable.

Here are a few tips and tactics to stay warm this winter and look great doing it.

#1 Fits Like a Glove?

Remember the ski wear from the 1970s? It was shiny and snug. Today’s fashionable ski wear tends to have a looser fit. In fact, if you’re under the age of 25, it’s quite baggy. Skip the one-piece skin-tight ski suits and opt for separates. They’re more comfortable. They’re easier to remove when you head indoors. And they’re easier to mix and match.

#2 Snow Pants or Overalls?

Overalls, aka bibs, have their benefits. Namely, they don’t slip down when you’re skiing or boarding. They can also help keep your torso warm with an extra layer of material. They are a bit of a challenge when you want to remove them, though; you’ll have to take your coat off first. Standard snow pants are often more preferable simply because they’re more fashionable. When buying bibs or snow pants, consider the following:

* They should be loose enough to allow for a full range of motion.
* They should fit well enough that there are no gaps that can expose you to contact with snow and cold air.
* They should also be the right length. If they’re too short, snow can get into your boots. Too long and you can trip on the hem.

#3 Matchy Matchy or Go for a Contrast?

The next purchase to consider is your coat. Snow pants come in an abundance of colors and patterns. You can even buy snow pants that look like denim jeans. So the question arises, should you buy a coat that matches your pants or one that provides some contrast? The answer depends largely on the type of snow pants you purchased. For example, if you purchased black snow pants then you can buy just about any coat you want. However, if you purchased pink and purple plaid snow pants, then the options are a bit limited.

#4 Don’t Be Afraid to Stand Out

Bright colors, patterns, and designs are what it’s all about. Don’t hesitate to be bold if that’s your style. If you love bright colors and patterns, by all means showcase your style. If, on the other hand, you prefer to blend in, consider pale colors like an all-white ensemble.

#5 The Accessories

Let’s not forget the hat, gloves, face masks, goggles and other snow gear. Hats and gloves are essential for just about any outdoor winter sport or activity. Goggles, masks and other accessories are great for skiing and boarding. Invest in top-quality accessories and they’ll look fashionable and last a good, long time. You don’t need to follow trends with accessories.

Take the time to find outerwear that fits and feels good. Make sure it’s warm and will protect you from the elements. There are so many wonderful and fashionable choices that it’s easy to put functionality and budget first and still look great in the snow.
